Commissioned by Mike Stevenson for his business, NINETY - May 2017 - "You've Got Something"
"NINETY - We’ll help you find the best job you’ve ever had.
I was looking for a new approach to launch NINETY, a new online career management programme. So I approached Hattie to write us a song. As a big fan of her music, I knew she’d been through many of the tough dilemmas and challenges we all face with our careers. It takes courage to find, and then follow, our dreams and instincts. If anyone could capture the essence of NINETY in a song, Hattie could.
"You’ve Got Something" captures wonderfully the hopes, dreams and fears we all face in today’s challenging job market. Looking over the edge and thinking ‘What if?’ can be a frightening experience. We need to be courageous. Some play safe, they find excuses why they can’t follow their dreams. While others are brave, they dig deep and look for the ‘something special’ inside themselves.
Each of us is the hero of our own lives. Go for it. Thanks for the great song Hattie. All the best with your music career.
NINETY salutes you."

Commissioned by Garry Gill for Cheryl - March 2015 - "Early Girl"
"Two years ago, 2015, I discovered Hattie at Guiting Music Festival. I was immediately hooked by her amazing voice and beautiful lyrics. I can honestly say that I have never heard a voice with so much soul and feeling since Otis Redding. Although of a very, very different genre, the sentiments are the same, love lost and found only to be lost again, it breaks ones heart.
Yet it’s strange how sad songs are therapeutic, thus healing and listening to Hattie is my therapy. Back in 2015, I wrote to Hattie as I love the way she works her voice, if you listen to Hattie singing Hide, you will understand. I told her that for my own pleasure I wrote poetry, and asked her if she would be kind enough to look at five of my poems and tell me what she thought? One poem was called “I’m Alive”. It dawned on me that Hattie’s would be the perfect voice for a poem of such magnitude. It is about premature birth, my daughter’s. I was thinking that I could commission Hattie to record a song using my poem, but only if she thought it good enough? Her reply blew me away, Hattie said that she was incredibly touched that I had sent my poems to her and would see what she could do, though she couldn’t promise. Over the last two years I’ve seen and enjoyed Hattie’s performances many times, and we have emailed each other several times. We talked - “I’m Alive” needed to be softened, so Hattie rewrote it sympathetically.
The happy out come is that Hattie has recorded the new song, and it is now called “Early Girl”. It is beautiful, gentle and so humbling, that tears welled up inside when she sung it at my seventieth birthday party recently. I closed my eyes and saw my lovely daughter Cheryl Julie, so tiny in that incubator all those years ago. She is a grown woman now and told me that she too cried, but only happy tears. Thank you Hattie for making my daughter cry!"

Commissioned by Ken Fleming for Regine - April 2017 - "Ma Regine"
"We first heard Hattie sing in the Town Hall at Kirton-in Lindsey in 2016. Her ‘Hi-Fi’ voice and the musicianship with her band won our hearts. Hattie’s songs usually have a story attached and she shares their context and inspiration with you at her gigs so that you feel ‘part of them’. Her tunes are always melodic - sometimes jolly, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes hauntingly beautiful and her lyrics are always clever and sung with crystal clear diction.
When writing ‘Ma Regine’ as a commission to celebrate my French wife’s 60th birthday, Hattie successfully condensed 40 years of our life together by weaving alternate lines in French and English into a touching love song, based on a few photos and brief resume. Magic! As a perfectionist, Hattie asked for feedback on the song’s French grammar before incorporating it into the second version. Regine tells me Hattie’s French is as good as hers!
We are certain that Hattie’s musical talent and energy will soon attract a huge following and wish her ‘Bon Voyage’ in whatever direction her career takes her. It’s been a pleasure to have been part of the journey."

Commissioned by Alex Robinson for Hester - May 2017 - "Honeymooders"
"We love Honeymooders. It is very clever in the way that it captures how we met and our wedding. Hattie is very talented and we love her music. We first heard her perform at Upsall Castle and we were captivated by Hattie’s voice, style and lyrics. At the concert she played a couple of her commissions and mentioned that she was interested in writing more. I thought it would be a lovely gift to ask Hattie to write a song for my wife, Hester, for our 20th wedding anniversary. I contacted Hattie via her website to see if she could help. She asked for some background and ideas. I wrote about how I met Hester, and our family together and I also included some poems and ideas for songs. Hattie and I discussed the focus of the song and she came back with the perfect song, having weaved together the ideas and words that I provided – genius! Thank you very much for Honeymooders – it brought tears to our eyes."

Commissioned by Douglas Bloom - December 2015 - "Time" (lyrics based on a poem by Valerie Bloom)
"I'd always thought that my wife's beautiful poem 'Time' could work as a song lyric. So when I saw that Hattie's crowdfunding options to raise money for recording her second album included one to record a personal song I set her the challenge not to cover an existing song but to write a new one based on Val's poem. We had a deadline of Val's birthday 6 months away as I was planning a surprise party for her in which the new song could feature so there was no rush.
Hattie proved easy to work with; she responded quickly to emails and we were able to sort out the copyright issues quickly and amicably. I was delighted with the song. It's a short poem so Hattie wrote additional verses that were sensitive in nature to the original. Musically the song was a surprise; it had a more bluesy feel to it than I associate with Hattie. She said that the challenge of working with Val's words had pushed her in that direction and I was enormously pleased to think that my commission had contributed to her development as a songwriter.
There's even talk of a future recording and collaboration with another artist, so who knows, the song may prove to have a life of its own. Hattie premiered it at the London Folkfest at the Bedford in early June, 2016 and my son was there to video the performance (there's a different video of that performance on YouTube.) We used the video at Val's surprise birthday party and also used the song as the soundtrack for a slideshow of Val performing over the years. Both were really well received - and oh, yes, Val absolutely loves the song."

Commissioned by Ben Forster for Emily - June 2016 - "A New York Winter's Day"
"Hattie is a very special artist to us as we had one of her songs (All About Love) as our first dance and she performed a wonderful set at our Wedding.
When I saw that Hattie was taking song commissions I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to have a song written and performed by Hattie for my wife's 30th Birthday.
Right from the start Hattie was really helpful; I sent her some ideas and key moments that she could think about; and we bounced around some ideas. She chose to write the song about our Christmas engagement in New York. This was such a great idea as it was such a magical memory, and Emily also loves Christmas!
Hattie captured the moment perfectly and the song "A New York Winters Day" is beautiful!
The song was a surprise for Emily and when Hattie played the song at her Christmas gig it was perfect and Emily loved it!
Thank you so much Hattie for sharing your wonderful talents with us; needless to say this song has a very special place in our hearts."

Commissioned by Marilyn Erskine for Richard - August 2016 - "Ricardo's Coming Home"
"My husband and I first heard Hattie at the Nailsworth Festival in 2015. At that time we didn’t know Hattie or her music but we were hooked as soon as she started singing. Since then we have been following Hattie and were fortunate to be at the launch of her second album, ‘Young Runaway’, at Stroud Subscription Rooms in 2016. We both enjoy not only Hattie’s pure voice but also her wonderful lyrics.
In October 2016 Richard retired, shortly before his 63rd birthday and I came up with the idea of commissioning Hattie to write a song for him. The process was very easy and all done secretly so Richard had no idea until I presented him with his very own disc with ‘Ricardo’s coming home’ on it, personally signed by Hattie along with the handwritten lyrics. Initial contact with Hattie was via email. Hattie asked for some ideas of what Richard might like and some significant things in his life and his likes and hobbies. From a list emerged a lovely happy tune which is very personal and bought a tear to my eye. Once my daughters and I had approved the demo, Hattie went into the studio to record the final version. The icing on the cake was when Hattie performed the song live with her band at ‘Christmas Hats’ in the Stroud Sub Rooms in December 2016. Again another pre planned surprise for Richard and one he will treasure forever."
