Happy Friday to you all! I hope you're not feeling too depressed over the loss of that precious tan, and that now your faces are smooth and soft - cleansed by the constant drizzle and buffered by the wind. Edinburgh was a wee bit mad! It started very well when we got to the airport with lots of time to spare, but descended into stressful cursing when we found out that our bag was over the weight limit. 20 minutes later, after taking 2 boxes of CDs out of the bag, buying another bag for them to go as hand luggage, and checking in my guitar so that we were allowed more weight allowance on the first bag, we were back to a (less calm than we were originally) state of calm. As per usual on the flight I was sitting next to somebody with a cold who was coughing much of the time in my general direction. Luckily it was a short flight as trying not to breathe in too deeply gets pretty tiring very quickly. But enough of that, we made it in the end with all our luggage, some humour, and good health in tact to our Air B&B on the outskirts of Edinburgh. For the next few days we did a lot of exploring, plenty of lugging heavy stuff around while trying to avoid all the people handing out flyers, I did some busking and performed outside a touring milk float, was a guest performer at Alice Fraser’s panel show “Love Bites”, went to see the Edinburgh Tattoo (we got lucky and were offered a couple of tickets as it was sold out the whole time we were there), and saw some fantastic comedy performances - a pretty busy few days! The weather was good (better than at home actually), and we only got soaked through once while trying to catch the bus back to the B&B - great success! Here are a few pics - on Blackford Hill, busking outside Waverley Station, the milk float gig, "Love Bites", and the Tattoo. The next snippet of excitement is that Tilly’s Song music video is now finished and will be coming out with the single towards the end of September. You can check out the artwork at the top. I hope you’ve been able to catch the track (banjo and all) on local radio as it’s had quite a few plays already. If not, keep an eye on my Facebook page as I’ll keep posting the catch-up links. Here are some taster pics. As you can see, Tilly and I went back in time to film the video with our younger selves. I'm incredibly happy to say that what started off as one Living Room gig in Rotterdam has now turned into a 16 date tour of The Netherlands, wahoo, I can't wait! The line up so far is on the poster below. The last 3 dates available for fitting in last minute gigs are as follows - 28/10, 6/11 & 11/11. Finally, my Living Room Tour of the UK is about to start! I'll be on the road all through September and into the beginning of October and am so looking forward to meeting you all, many for the first time! During the tour I will also be performing at some music venues for which tickets will be available to the public, these include:
Sept 18th - West St Loft, Shoreham Sept 19th - Stroud Folk Festival, Subscription Rooms, Stroud Sept 28th - Gaslight Session, Oporto Bar, Leeds Oct 2nd - Tree House Book Shop, Kenilworth Oct 3rd - Spilsby Theatre Bar, Spilsby For ticket links and full gigs list head over to my current gigs page http://www.hattiebriggs.co.uk/current-gigs and I hope to bump into you soon! Stay cool (shouldn't be too tricky, brrrrr), Hattisha x Evening Team! I hope you’re all suitably excited about the new season off GB Bake Off and today’s cricket shenanigans. Good timing as there’s not much sunbathing to be done. I have some tasty snippets of news, some tour updates and tales of a packed festival weekend. First I should mention that I’m gigging this Saturday evening, the 8th, at Painswick Golf Club as part of Artburst Festival. Doors open at 7pm and there is a posh ploughman’s dinner included in the ticket price. You can grab your tickets online - http://www.painswickartsfestival.com/hattie-briggs-concert-at-painswick-golf-club OR via the phone number on the poster above. If you’re planning on coming along I would advise reserving tickets as they are selling fast. Also happening this Saturday 8th - I’m going to be on SKY ARTS TV! Henry, Barney and I filmed a session with them during Cambridge Folk Festival at the weekend and it’s going to be aired at around 9pm. So if you can’t come to the gig in Painswick you can watch us on your TV screen instead, and if you can come you’ll have to record it :-) Speaking of Cambridge, I can honestly say that it was EPIC. The response to our set couldn’t have been better, I met loads of lovely, helpful and interesting people (including Peggy Seeger!), and saw some unbelievably talented artists doing their thing! Some of my highlights were Lewis & Leigh, Stornoway, The Lone Bellow, Nick Mulvey, the Sam Kelly Trio and the John Butler Trio. I wish I could do it all over again - fingers crossed for next year! On Sunday we headed back to Gloucestershire for Guiting Power Festival and amazingly the sun shone on our sleepy village field to make it a very enjoyable afternoon all round. There were nearly as many dogs in the audience as people so “Old Eyes” went down a treat, and we got free pie after our performance! It was top pie - in fact I’m thinking this should be on my rider from now on, so I may have gained a few pounds the next time I see you. The final things to mention are my trips to Edinburgh and Holland! I’ll certainly be doing some busking around Edinburgh during the fringe, but do let me know if you or a friend/family member would like to host a house concert - info@hattiebriggs.co.uk My Holland tour is now looking pretty darn busy, which is awesome. This is going to be a real adventure and I hope that some of you can make it along to these gigs. There are some still to be confirmed, but below is pretty much the full list. I’ll definitely be doing some busking around the place too, so please get in touch if you have any suggestions of where might be a good place to go! Apologies if this blog was overly distracting and the cake you were baking is now burnt. Put some extra icing on it and no one will know.
